It's more that I care about research and development that can solve local problems for local people. While the wider implications might be to combat, let's say, climate change, actually what I care about isn't reducing those impacts in industry, but I ask whether or not taxpayer money is being used to strengthen bridges that connect villages, or new materials that means potholes don't get created so easily, etc.
