I broke up with my girlfriend last week and it was really difficult but it’s been so rewarding already. I’d never done it before, I’d always dragged my relationships out until the other person broke up with me, usually a lot longer than they should’ve gone

But this time it got really bad, she got really mean, so i thought about it for a little bit, and i realized i was miserable for no reason at all, and that I didn’t have to be unhappy, so I made myself do it

this idea that we are contractual in our relationship with ourselves is historically specific. You have relations of mutual obligation as far back as the odyssey, and you have something like what this is saying in there too, but it isn’t quite like this.
