You should be able to get on your companies insurance with him quitting his job. There is exceptions to get on insurance plans when its not open enrollment periods. Have to look into HR and see what "life events" qualify for immediate enrollment.

Took 3 weeks off to go back to Oregon to empty out fathers house and come back to 6 weeks worth of work
