The USA has never been a self sustainable country, even since its beginnings it always relied on trade with Europe and native tribes to survive. The USA only produces like 30% of its food domestically

Not to mention on top of tariffs with our biggest trading partners and allies, we deported the people willing to do our agricultural work affordably. This is how food shortages happen

If he doesn't relent, we can see a global economic downturn that will affect every sector of the economy within 6 months.

We will likely see a pandemic style disruption to trade for no particularly good reason.

Unless Trump has an understanding of economics that somehow flies in the face of 200 years of study and experience, this will end literally poorly for everyone.

It seems like his goal is to shift global trade further away from the United States for some bizarre reason.

If this is a negotiation tactic he is severely overplaying his hand.

All he is accomplishing is forcing countries to shift their trade focus away from the United States and toward BRICs and especially China. Lol
