Openings don’t matter if you’re under 2000 or so especially in shorter time controls. Tactics will decide the game

Spend your time on puzzles and analyzing your games, studying gm games etc to get better not what to do IF somebody plays a certain opening. That’s my stupid advice

Patzers don’t lose because we’re not booked up in openings. We lose because we blunder and miss tactics

Yeah be familiar and know the basic plans doesn’t hurt of course. Just don’t worry too much with prep and variations all that. Soon as I got away from that and started focusing my chess time better and playing slower time controls I improved significantly pretty quickly
