Best things to use for self defence in the UK is something you have reason to carry: Umbrella, Stanley cup, etc. but I would suggest just using your legs to avoid any conflict as if someone is attacking you they probably feel tough because they have a blade.

In a courtroom you will have no sufficient argument to have been carrying the pepper spray
