📚Religion: Let’s Talk

Into a society
You benefit from
Obviously
God is anything but democratic
God is dynastic if anything, it’s my way or the highway it’s you follow my lead or you’re drowned in flood turned into stone
It's God's kingdom, according to the Bible, but I agree with the rest
There’s many many moral theories that don’t require religion Sasha
Utilitarianism is one
Luck egalitarianism
>>> God is dynastic if anything, it’s my way o... not all religions or philosophies are like that. Taoism, vedanta for example
I know but the person I’m responding too specifically means the abrahimic god
you are talking mostly about abrahamic relgions
ah ok
No worries man
The trouble with using human intelligence to come up with a moral ethic to live by, is that it always becomes corrupted. Our God given conscious is pretty good, but we do really need God's word as well, as far as I can see
Yes
Not really , the first settlements had a few sets of rules to ensure cohabitation. That was before abrahamic religions . Such settlements have been found in Greece and other places and date millennia .
Those people needed to be sure they can trust their fellow vilagers to respect their families and stuff and by joining as a community they gained safety in solidarity against external threats
Morality didn’t spawn out of religion it came out of the need for safety
You need to understand
It was called God
Before it was called morality
Morality is a newer idea
God is newer than morality
The Iliad is older than the bible my love
Yeah but the Greeks had gods love
It's called God when it's not understood
Their gods didn’t really bother giving them rules
There’s no scripture
So it must be God before it is anything else
They were still Gods
They believed in them
And worship them
Build temples for them
They were just expressions of nature . Things people couldn’t explain
Most of morality in Iliad of you read the Iliad is about how you treat your own
Yes how you treat yourself
No
But yourself bigger than yourself yes
Your family
Your religion
Your race
How you treat those near you those of your community
It's better than loving only yourself isn't it
Greek communities were very closed villages and later on city states
The point was to safeguard those near them from external danger
Nothing to do with gods
But the root of it still remained that protecting them you are also protected by them
I'm just cooking food I'm tired to argue
That’s fine let’s agree we disagree
